Wedding Ring

Try this out
............

Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger?
There is a beautiful and convincing
explanation given by the Chinese.....

Thumb represe
nts your Parents
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
Middle f
inger represents your-Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
& the Last (Little) finger represe
nts your children

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together - back to back
Secondly,
open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip
(As shown in the figure below):

Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)..., they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.

Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)...., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.
Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)...., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT....., because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!!

Please try this out.............

Flirting In Office

It is not always bad to flirt with someone because many times it advances into a serious relationship. So, you can say it can be the first step to a life long relationship. If you observe tentatively and carefully, you will find flirting everywhere whether it is some social get together or your work place. Would you like to know about office flirting? It is a very interesting subject and you are definitely going to like it if you start reading ahead.

Why do people flirt in the office? Do you know? Some people do not want to entangle in the relationships. Even then they prefer to flirt with their eyes, sound and even gestures. It is quite simple; they want to derive energy from somewhere to enjoy their boring work. Your normal attention charges them to give their best output in the work. This type of office flirting is very normal and healthy as no one is going to be harmed by it. However, the same situation can become worst as now office flirting has not remained restricted to eye batting and simple wooing. Sociological surveys in this regard brought out different and dangerous facts after conducting intensified surveys.

According to the conclusions of recent surveys, office flirting is rapidly converting into sexual and mental harassment. It has been the statement of large number of respondents especially females that they have been physically abused by their co-employees and boss. About 83% of girls state that they have been badly harassed by unfamiliar employees outside the office and even their friends who sometimes flirted with them in office made their secrets public and tried to defame them.

Now what to do about this unwanted office flirting? You cannot quit your job because one of your colleagues is continuously bothering you. And you are not complaining about it to authorities because you do not want to give unnecessary attention to the issue. If you too are facing this situation, here are some of the guidelines to work safely in the office.

If any of your office mates flirt with you occasionally, it is quite okay but if it is a regular feature, you must be alert while dealing with him. Build good terms with others so that they will help you in sorting out your problem. You can show your disinterest to the flirty person with your body language. If he tries to get close with you unnecessarily, you can show your ignorance by not looking at him or putting your arms crossed before your chest. Never touch him or it will give him wrong message that you are interested in him. If you know about the nature of a particular person, never give him personal compliment. You can comment on his professional success, like you can compliment him for wonderful presentation instead of commenting on his pullover or pair of jeans.

These are some of the ways to work safely in the office but just let us remind you that flirting a little is not bad and offending. But one should carry it in a way that it does not offend anyone in the office. If you are seriously flirting with some one you can carry out it outside the office where there is no boss and office rules to stop you.

As energy bills soar, Japanese test fuel of future

AFP - Monday, June 9

TOKYO (AFP) - - As world oil prices skyrocket, thousands of households in energy-poor Japan are taking part in an ambitious experiment to use fuel cells to light and heat their homes.

Since the prime minister's official residence became the first house in the world to be equipped with a domestic fuel cell in 2005, about 3,000 households have signed up to have the grey boxes installed outside their homes.

The project aims to thrust Japan to the forefront of a "hydrogen society" that has kicked its addiction to fossil fuels and produces affordable energy while spewing out far less of the greenhouse gas that is blamed for global warming.

"The principle of fuel cells has been known since the end of the 14th century, but their first practical use was not until 1965, aboard the American spacecraft Gemini 5," said Michihiro Mohri, a senior vice president at Nippon Oil Corp.

The fuel cells produce electricity and hot water through a chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen extracted from natural gas or other fuels.

"The hydrogen needed can come from various sources -- hydrocarbons, natural gas, bio mass or rubbish" to create methane, said Mohri.

While the fuel cells do not emit carbon dioxide, some is produced by the system during the process to extract hydrogen from natural gas, although less than traditional forms of power generation.

As well as producing electricity, the fuel cells also ensure a steady supply of hot water for households. With no motor inside, the machines -- about the size of a small cupboard -- are also silent.

"Households with the system are also no longer at the mercy of power cuts during natural disasters," said Mohri, an obvious plus for people living in one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.

Japan, with almost no natural energy resources of its own, is seeking to reduce its dependence on crude oil imports by developing energy efficient appliances and alternative forms of power generation.

Oil prices posted their biggest ever one-day gain on Friday, hitting a new record of 138.54 dollars a barrel in New York, up five-fold since 2003 amid supply worries and rising demand in emerging economies.

Far behind in meeting its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol to cutting emissions, Japan hopes to drastically reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced by its households.

The government even recently called on households to cut their time in the bath or shower to help meet Kyoto targets.

The government-sponsored fuel cell scheme involves a clutch of Japanese energy and technology heavyweights including Nippon Oil, Tokyo Gas, Sanyo Electric, Toshiba, Matsushita Electric Industrial, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Toyota Motor.

Some provide the source of hydrogen, others batteries or other components.

The government estimates there could be demand for 550,000 domestic fuel cells a year in Japan within a few years. There are 48 million households in Japan, of which 25 million live in individual houses.

For now, however, the system is expensive at about two million yen, or some 19,000 dollars, excluding installation. Research is underway to make the machines as economical as possible thanks to less expensive sources of hydrogen.

Thanks to reductions in the cost of components, the companies involved in the project hope to reduce the price of the equipment to one million yen as soon as possible to boost demand, and to cut it further to 500,000 yen in 2015.

Japanese automakers are also chasing the fuel cell dream, working to create a viable car which would produce power through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen and leaving water as the only by-product.

Thailand's most beautiful transvestite

AFP - Sunday, June 1

PATTAYA, Thailand (AFP) - - A teenage transvestite who grew up on a military base was crowned Thailand's most beautiful transvestite late Friday, in an extravagant annual pageant which transfixed the nation.

Kangsadarn Wongdusadeekul, known by her stage name "Nonk," cried as she accepted her Miss Tiffany crown from last year's winner.

Nonk, 19, particularly impressed the panel of judges with her question round.

Asked if she would be happy to join the army as a man, she told the audience: "Last year I went to register as a soldier but my figure had changed so the government did not let me.

"We are beautiful -- so we have no need to be soldiers," she said, getting the biggest laugh of the night.

Her win brings considerable financial reward: 100,000 baht (3,200 US dollars) -- equivalent to a year's wages for a factory worker -- and a Honda car.

But with the cost of a single pageant dress at least 10,000 baht, winning Miss Tiffany is about more than the prizes.

Most of the 30 transvestites parading across the glitter-filled stage said they were seeking social acceptance rather than money.

Nonk says she is lucky to have been accepted by her family as her father is a colonel in the Thai army.

Nonk told AFP after the contest that she had known she wanted to be a girl from a very young age, and her military family were so understanding they now tell friends she is their daughter. They keep few photos of Nonk as a boy.

"They said I can be whatever I want to be so long as I take care of myself and other people," she said.

Miss Tiffany 2008 was crowned in a sold-out 2,000-seater theatre, and televised nationally.

The runners-up were Pailin "Bank" Denfhanapapol and Doolkamon "Golf" Kontun, with awards also given for Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic.

The event has become increasingly high profile, with winners forging careers as television presenters and as the faces of beauty products.

Miss Tiffany will now advance to the global competition, Miss International Queen, to be held here in October.

Malaysia to ban foreigners from filling up on subsidized gasoline near borders

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - The government will ban people in foreign-registered vehicles from buying gasoline in border areas of Malaysia, where heavy subsidies have kept petroleum costs low despite soaring prices internationally.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Abdul Samad said a day earlier that the ban was aimed at
keeping foreigners from driving into Malaysia from Thailand and Singapore to fill up on cheap gasoline and diesel, which cost up to twice as much in the neighboring countries.

The ban was "a stern act by the government to reduce the leak in subsidy," national news agency Bernama quoted Shahrir as saying. His aide, who declined to be named citing protocol, confirmed his comments Tuesday.

The fuel subsidies, which were expected to cost the government 45 billion ringgit (US$14 billion; 9 billion) this year, "should actually be enjoyed by the lower-income group in the country" and not foreigners, Shahrir said.

"This move is temporary until we come up with better management of our subsidy system," The Star daily quoted him as saying.

Shahrir said the ban could take effect as early as Friday at up to 300 stations within 30 miles (50 kilometers) of the borders with Thailand and Singapore.

Alang Zari Ishak, president of a local petroleum dealers association, said the ban may hurt tourism and relations with Malaysia's neighbors.

"It's a very harsh decision," he said. "There are other ways to curb this subsidy money being utilized."

Enforcement officers will monitor gasoline stations and signs will inform motorists of the new rule, Shahrir said. Those found breaking the rule could be fined or face up to three years in jail, said another official in Shahrir's ministry. He declined to be named, citing protocol.

Currently, foreign registered vehicles are allowed to buy only up to 5.3 gallons (20 liters), he said.

Although oil prices have soared globally, the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has not raised retail gasoline, diesel or gas prices.

Turn-ons, turn-offs, desire varies widely among men

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Men aren't all from Mars when it comes to their sexuality, a new study from Kinsey Institute researchers shows.
Among the revelations from their focus groups in which men talked about what influenced their sexual desire and arousal: one man's turn-on is often another's turn-off; an erection doesn't always signal arousal; and not every guy wants to jump into bed at the drop of a hat.

"We're probably from a whole bunch of different planets," Dr. Erick Janssen, an associate scientist at the Bloomington, Indiana-based institute and one of the study's authors, told Reuters Health.

"We don't tend to -- from a research perspective -- sit down a lot with men or groups of men and talk about such intimate topics, such as what influences...sexual desire and arousal and the topic or the question of where in all of this the penis comes in," he added. "This is one of the studies that attempted to do that."

Janssen and his team set up six focus groups in which 50 men between the ages of 18 and 70, most of whom were white and heterosexual, talked about what aroused them sexually and what enhanced or inhibited their arousal. The findings are published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Men reported getting erections without necessarily being aroused, while some men, especially older men, said they might become aroused without having an erection. Some used masturbation as a way to "fix" it "when something just feels off," or as a "great way" to get out of a funk.

Many men said feeling confident and good about themselves often led to feeling sexually aroused (while "feeling scruffy" had the opposite effect). And for many men, a self-confident partner was also more desirable than one who didn't feel good about herself. In addition to a nice body and a pretty face, many men found intelligence "really attractive" and "a big turn on."

Mood and feeling emotionally connected also influenced arousal for men, while a woman's scent was key for some men, but not others. However, an "overwhelming majority" said that being outdoors, for example on a camping trip or having a picnic, boosted their sexual desire and arousal.

Taken together, the findings provide a much more nuanced picture of men's sexuality than is promoted by men's magazines, Janssen pointed out. "There's huge variability among men in how easily they're turned on or turned off, how easily they experience sexual desire and arousal," he explained. "The differences among men and the differences among women are much larger than the average difference between the sexes in almost anything sexual."

In fact, the researcher added, as many as 30 percent of women may be more easily sexually aroused than most men. "This study's challenging the idea that men are simple," he said.

Thailand bans castrations

BANGKOK (AFP) - - Thai health officials on Wednesday(2nd Apr 2008) banned doctors from performing castrations, pending an ethics review of complaints about minors undergoing the operation as the first step toward a sex change.
The ban on all castrations came after parents and gay rights activists last week filed a complaint that doctors were castrating underage boys. They argue that boys should wait until they are 18 to receive the surgery

The Medical Council of Thailand, which sets ethical standards for doctors, is reviewing the practise and will develop guidelines for castrations, a health ministry official told AFP.

"The ban will last until the Medical Council reaches a decision over the castrations," the official told AFP.

"These castrations are unethical," he added.
The ban affects more than 10,000 hospitals and clinics, which could face closure if they violate it.
The boys hope that by removing their testicles, their bodies will not develop masculine features and they will appear more feminine when they eventually complete their gender reassignment surgery.

Most clinics require parental approval before performing castrations on minors, but the order bars the operation even with approval of parents.

Castration costs as little as 4,000 baht (130 dollars), a tiny fraction of the total cost of gender reassignment surgery.

Thailand is famously tolerant of transsexuals, known locally as "kathoey", or the third gender. While they have traditionally been allowed roles in festivals and cabarets, they have in recent years sought to make inroads into mainstream society.

Little Hidden Treasure of Thailand

KOH SAMET

Most seaside resorts near Bangkok are either over-run by tourists or over-developed to a point where natural beauty no longer remains. While a trip down to Phuket or Thailand’s far southern islands might not be an option, Ko Samet offers the same quiet, natural feel, albeit on a smaller scale than Phuket.

Some of Bangkok’s younger middle class have discovered Ko Samet, making the north end of the island a laid back, but crowded (on weekends) seaside spot. There are lots of beachside bars and, though it may be crowded on weekends, the atmosphere is good.

Fortunately, for those seeking the quintessential Thailand beach experience, Ko Samet’s southern half offers just that. There are no drugged-out rave parties here, but there are opportunities to see the natural island, both above the water, and below it. The rocky shoreline on the southern coast is as rugged as it is scenic.

Ko Samet has several boat tour companies, which offer trips to nearby sights as well as snorkeling or diving. There are land tours as well, covering Samet’s National Park, and the more rugged parts of the coastline. Both these excursions can be booked at most hotels. Jimmy’s Tours, mentioned in Lonely Planet, has some of the best reviews for its boat tours as well as its overland jaunts. There are several others that are just as good.

As with every place along Thailand’s seafront, Ko Samet offers seafood virtually everywhere. Hawkers roam the beaches selling certain snacks, while seafood shops selling freshly grilled seafood of innumerable varieties line the most popular beaches. (The dried squid is not as pungent as it might seem. Those who enjoy seafood would do well to give it a try).

There are places to stay all over Samet. The best are located around the beaches on the island’s north and east sides. Some of the bungalows are pretty basic, but there are some well-appointed guesthouses as well. Just make sure you are provided with at least a mosquito net. Ko Samet has been the scene of several outbreaks of malaria over the years.

It takes around two-and-a-half hours to get to the ferry that leaves often for Ko Samet. The boat trip takes under an hour. Getting around Ko Samet is easy via pick-up truck (songthaew) or motorcycle taxi.
Ko Samet is not as stunning as its southern cousins, but the island offers some great scenery and is easy to reach from Bangkok.

Songkran Festival Thai New Year

Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

Songkran is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran festival on April 13 is Maha Songkran Day or the day to mark the end of the old year, April 14 is Wan Nao which is the day after and April 15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok which the New Year begins. At this time, people from the rural areas who are working in the city usually return home to celebrate the festival. Thus, when the time come, Bangkok temporarily turns into a deserted city.

The Songkran tradition is recognized as a valuable custom for the Thai community, society and religions. The value for family is to provide the opportunity for family members to gather in order to express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents and to present them gifts including making merits to dedicate the result to their ancestors. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity.

SINGHA BEER CHEERS!!!

Singha Beer is the main national brand, asking simply for a beer will get you one of these.

The 6% bottled Singha Lager Beer is labeled as "Malt Liquor" in many states in the U.S. A light straw color, this well-carbonated brew offers a medium body along with a mellow maltiness that accompanies a nice supporting alcohol presence. The flavors come across as well balanced and this more "potent" beer is actually a better match for some of the bolder spicy dishes offered at Thai restaurants than the light lagers commonly found on the menus of these establishments.

Unlike many of it's Asian competitors, the Singha lager is an all-malt brew.

A draught version is available with a slightly different taste, but still not very palatable. Some people like it, and if you ask for a beer without specifying a brand, this is what you will usually be served.

The version that is exported in cans and bottles is slightly better tasting.
